Osseo Senior High’s Visual Arts students performed well at the 2019 Minnesota Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards. Demonstrating talent in the areas of ceramics, photography, drawing, painting and jewelry, OSH students earned a total of 34 awards competing against 3,746 art entries from schools across the state.
Awarded artwork will be on display at the University of Minnesota in the Regis West Gallery from Feb. 5 to 23. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday if people would like to check it out.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the longest running and largest source of scholarships for creative teenagers in the United States. The awards program was created in 1923 by Maurice R. “Robbie” Robinson, founder of Scholastic Corporation, and has been administered by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers since 1994. It has an impressive legacy and a noteworthy roster of past winners including Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, and Joyce Carol Oates and many others.
