FreqUently Asked Questions 

ALL PLAYERS MUST BE REGISTERED THROUGH THE ATHLETIC OFFICE BY FRIDAY, MARCH 8th TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONDITIONING AND TRYOUTS. You MUST also have an UP-TO-DATE PHYSICAL on file. Sports physicals must be updated every three years.  

When do tryouts start?
Conditioning/Arm Care begins Monday, March 11th. The first day of tryouts will be held Monday, March 18th, and will run through Wednesday, March 20th. Practices will be held during Spring Break, March 25th-28th for those players not traveling to Florida

What time is conditioning/arm care?
Monday, March 11th-Thursday, March 14 at
Memorial Field, 3-4pm  **TIME AND LOCATION CHANGE**

What time are tryouts? (See Schedule)
Tryouts are divided into two groups:

  • Veterans: players from any grade who played in last year's Osseo Baseball program
  • Rookies: players from any grade new to the Osseo Baseball program

Who can tryout?
Osseo Baseball is a 7th-12th grade sport.

How is the program structured?
Osseo Baseball rosters 4 teams:

  • VARSITY: 7th-12th graders
  • JUNIOR VARSITY: 7th-12th graders
  • SOPHOMORE (B): 7th-10th graders
  • FRESHMAN (9A): 7th-9th graders

What paperwork do I need for tryouts?

  • All players MUST register through the Athletic Department through EduTrak.
  • All players MUST have an up-to-date physical on file.

Players CANNOT participate in conditioning week or tryouts if they do not have both turned in.
Players will NOT be able to make up tryout days for late paperwork.

What should I wear to tryouts?
For East Gym - okay for shorts.  Catcher's should wear pants.
For Memorial Field - Look like a baseball player, wear pants and dress for the weather.

What is expected for tryouts?

  • Players should arrive early and be warmed up and ready to go at your tryout time.
  • Players are expected to be at all tryout dates for their entire session.
  • Look like a baseball player.
  • Players are responsible for bringing their own equipment.

What will I be doing during tryouts? 

  • All players may hit AND field everyday.
  • Everyone will participate in Infield and Outfield drills.
  • There may be a speed/conditioning test everyday.
  • Pitchers will throw bullpens and/or throw to LIVE hitters.
  • Catchers will have catching evaluations.

What will I be evaluated on in tryouts?
Evaluations will be based on mechanics and execution, NOT just results. Players will be evaluated on:

  • Individual Athleticism
  • Physical Conditioning
  • Offensive Skill/Capabilities
  • Defensive Skill/Capabilities
  • Intangibles (coachable, attitude, work ethic, versatility and team needs)

How are players selected for teams?
Players will need to fill an identified team role in order to make the Osseo High School Baseball Team. One player may fill multiple roles;  and a player’s role can change throughout the year. Discussions on these roles occur between the coaches throughout the year.

When do I find out if I was selected for a team?
Players will know by the end of tryouts if they have been selected for a team.

How many players will be on each team?
Each player is selected to a team to fill a role on the team. Following tryouts the coaching staff will determine the number of players on each team.

What clothing does the baseball program provide?
Osseo Senior High provides players with a game jersey only. Players will be expected to purchase a Player Pack – approx. $160 (game hat, practice hat, practice shorts, and two practice shirts.)  All players will be responsible for supplying their own baseball game pants (white with a thin black stripe). 

There will also be other optional apparel for purchase (jackets, sweatshirts, fleeces & shirts.) This will be completed through an on-line store.

What are the attendance policies?
Players are expected to attend all tryout dates, practices, meetings, and games unless excused by a coach prior to the absence. Additional information can be found in the player handbook.

What is the communication process?
If a player or parent has a question, concern or conflict – it is the PLAYER’S responsibility and obligation to contact their coach.

How do I receive program information in a timely manner?
Regularly check the website and join the email list by contacting the booster club secretary. Our twitter page @Osseo_baseball is used to communicate on a regular basis.

How do I join the booster club?
Anyone can attend booster club meetings. Parents are expected to participate in a minimum of one (1) committee and actively support fundraising activities and events. Meeting notices are posted on the website and are sent out through the email distribution list.

What fundraising is done and what are the funds used for?
The primary baseball fundraisers are Water Softener Salt, Pizza Sales, Pancake Breakfast, Cub Food Bagging and Gerten's Spring Flower sales.

Off-season fundraisers are held in the Fall and Winter (Cub Bagging and Pancake Breakfast.) 

All players are expected to participate in fundraising.

Funds are used to assist in paying coaches' salaries, team equipment, field maintenance and improvements, and dome time.

Is transportation provided to all games?
Transportation will be provided to most road games for Varsity and JV. There will be transportation for ALL Sophomore (B) and Freshman (9A) road games.

All players are responsible for transportation to the dome and from the dome to school.
